The Nehru Jacket
A fresh perspective on traditional tailoring. Discover our newest jacket style: the Nehru Jacket.
For our new collection, we introduced a style that brings a modern perspective to traditional tailoring while remaining rooted in its principles. The Nehru Jacket felt like a natural choice, offering something beyond the classic blazer. Defined by its clean construction and distinctive standing collar, its minimal design leaves plenty of room for personal interpretation through fabric, colour and fit.

The Nehru Jacket offers a different perspective on traditional tailoring. Without the familiar lapels of a classic tailored jacket, the design creates a streamlined silhouette that feels refined yet distinctly modern. The Nehru Jacket became internationally recognised during the 20th century.
The style later became closely associated with India’s first Prime Minister whose tailored jackets helped bring the silhouette to wider international attention. By the 1960s, interpretations of the Nehru Jacket had entered Western fashion, where its minimal construction offered an alternative to conventional tailoring. Since then, the style has continued to evolve, appearing across both menswear and womenswear in changing fabrics, proportions and interpretations.

At the heart of the Nehru Jacket is its standing collar. Sitting closely around the neckline, it replaces the traditional lapel and immediately gives the jacket its recognisable character. The result is a cleaner front and a more streamlined silhouette, allowing the construction and fabric to take greater focus.
Over time, designers have interpreted the style across both menswear and womenswear, adapting its proportions while retaining the elements that define it. Its clean construction makes it easy to style as part of a tailored look, while also allowing the jacket to be worn more independently as an alternative to a traditional blazer or lighter outer layer.
Our interpretation retains the characteristic standing collar and clean silhouette while allowing the details to be shaped around the person wearing it. As with every Mesure garment, the entirety of the jacket is made-to-measure, creating a fit and proportion tailored to the individual. The simplicity of the design also places greater emphasis on the choices that make each jacket personal.

Available in a wide range of fabrics and colours, the Nehru Jacket can be made in any of our suiting fabrics. From classic wools to fabrics with more visible texture or colour, each choice gives the jacket a different expression.
Heavier wools introduce another possibility, giving the jacket enough structure and warmth to be worn as a versatile in-between jacket. This allows the design to move beyond traditional suiting and become a piece that can be worn across different occasions and moments of the season.
